All inquires and questions will be updated regularly, please check here often:
Q: Is there a connection with Operation Phoenix and the South East Regional Qualifier?
A: We have elected Operation Phoenix as our chartable recipient, we decided from the onset that our event would be non-profit.
Q: I would love to volunteer for the games, just give me the details and I'm there!
A: Just go to the registration link on the website and sign up. Its no costs, we have two options: Event Judge or Volunteer. Event Judge should be CrossFit level 2 certified or CrossFit level 1 certified and currently coaching at an affiliate. A volunteer can be anyone wanting to help out no experience needed.
Q: I am not CrossFit level 1 or 2 certified. However, I have been CrossFitting regularly for over two years and am very familiar with the movements and training style. I do understand your need for quality control in judges, so I'm just letting you know that if there aren't enough on the event day, I would happily step in as one.
A: Thank you, just speak up at the volunteer meeting on event day, if we ask for more event judges, we will decide then based on our event needs and your qualifications.
Q: How is the event going with registration?
A: Affiliate update #1 " The event is progressing very quickly as registrations are rolling in much faster than expected. Currently we are set at 200 max participants; I will not be surprised if we meet that number by early March or sooner. Just an FYI.
Q: How many people will there be at the qualifier?
A: 200 is our cap.
Q: I did have a question regarding the teams. Do they have to have a Male/Female split (ex 2 male 2 female)?
A: Great question here is your answer: We have 2 divisions for the Affiliate Challenge Team RX and Open. RX is the true Affiliate Challenge Team event, it will only be a four person team, 2 male and 2 female. the RX team must all train at the same affiliate. This event is a warm up for any affiliate considering sending a team to the 2009 CrossFit Games. The format will be similar to what is outlined on the main games site, except your team will only consist of 4 athletes not 6. Affiliate Challenge Team Open is any four person team configuration you want, all male, all female, event judges, volunteers, someone off the street the team doesn't even need to be from the same affiliate, completely open. Reasoning here is so anyone can participate in our event.
Q: I have asked a few of my trainers if they would judge and they said yeah, so I will have them register. And had a question, will these judges be able to compete or not?
A: As for the judges competing my answer is yes in either of the two Affiliate Challenge Team divisions and no as an individual Participant, too much conflict. I think there is going to be a shortage of Event Judges and the ones we use I want 100% from. The competition, I think would distract them, let alone before, during and a few min after their event they would be useless to us.
Q: Question is the $120 team event fee per person?
A: No it is $120 total $30 for each participant until March 25, then the late registration would cost $150 total $50 per.
Q: I have a question, is the registration for teams and individual separate? Is there a separate fee? If we register a team, do they also need to register as individuals? Is that even an option or must you do one or the other?
A: Short answer you must register for everything you plan to participate in. If you intend on doing both individual Participant and Affiliate Challenge Team, which you may (ouch!) you register and pay for both.
Q: I signed up as a judge on the regional site last week, but didn't hear anything back. How does that all work?
A: Take a look at the website as we have updated. You will be contacted in a few weeks by our Event Judge Coordinator to start the process. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Q: I looked at your web site and may have overlooked it, but I'm assuming you have to be a part of a CrossFit gym to participate in the dirty south?
A: Absolutely not, anyone can participate in the South East Regional Qualifier and the CrossFit Games if they qualify.
Q: Will the events and scaling be announced in advance or actually during each day? I am by no means an elite competitor but am considering diving in on a scaled basis. But I would hate to sign up and not be able to even do the scaled weights on one my weaker events?
A:The scaled weight option amounts will be announced on April 20th with the event WODs. Without knowing your abilities I can affirm that I am confident the scaled weights will be safe and manageable to anyone with CrossFit experience. Scaled competitors will be out of contention for qualifying spots so our approach will be to make the event safe and fun for all participants.
